The OPTIZMO™ Blog

News and tips from the industry leaders in email compliance.

ComplianceCast is back and we are finishing up our conversation with Matt Frary from The Partner Agency. We talk data privacy and its impact on Affiliate Marketing, a maturing Affiliate Marketing industry and finally, Frary tells a funny story on how our own COO, Tom Wozniak, practically saved his life hiking down a 14er.

Sitting down on the busy show floor at Affiliate Summit West, Tom opens up the discussion with a question on Data Privacy –

“Talking about data privacy certainly reminds me in many ways of the early days of email, where every state had its own email law before CAN-SPAM came around. Now we are really seeing where every state is coming up with its own data privacy law. Do you anticipate a federal law that might standardize that in a way that marketers can still work with?”

“I’d absolutely love to see a federal law”, says Frary. “I think that the industry is going to just continue to mature. I’m hoping that the FTC takes a look at this globally and federally and there’s something applied that’s not too restrictive.”

Frary expresses concern about how it could impact marketers and encourages self-regulation –

“What I’m hoping is we don’t mess up SMS and we don’t mess up some of the desktop alerts and push marketing. We don’t want to mess that up, where that starts getting regulated. So I think it’s time for us to mature ourselves, self-regulate a little better and I think we’ll be fine.”

Frary closes the video with a shout-out to the crew behind OPTIZMO Technologies –

“These guys have actually become my friends over time. And that all starts with a partnership in technology and then just getting to know each other. There’s a human face behind technology and it’s OPTIZMO.”
