As the holiday season kicks into high gear, many marketers are in the middle of their busiest time of year. But, with January right around the corner, it’s also time to be thinking about kicking off the new year on the right note. So, with that in mind, here is a list of New Year’s marketing resolutions that can be useful for just about any marketing team heading into 2020.

Really focus on your audience.

A lot of marketers might say “We already focus on our audience.” However, new platforms and technology allow more effective audience targeting and segmentation (in some cases, personalized one-to-one targeting) empowering companies to identify and deliver highly specific messaging to their audiences. With these kinds of tools, marketers should be even more incentivized to understand their audiences and how to best engage with every segment.

For 2020, look for ways to focus your messaging on what will best engage with your audience even more than in the past.

Stay on top of data privacy regulations.

If you’ve been involved with any type of advertising or marketing over the past few years, you would be hard-pressed to have missed the influx of new laws and regulations around the world that focus on consumer data privacy. From the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and numerous other laws in various states in the U.S., there is a clear trend toward putting more controls on how companies can collect, store, distribute and leverage consumer data.

In the new year, make sure you are well versed on how current and upcoming regulations will impact your business. Get expert legal advice on how to comply with relevant laws, while still getting the greatest value out of the data you collect and store about your various audiences.
